People think I'm stupid for hanging onto my vinyl records, but in a couple centuries, I'll have the last laugh on you all! Mwahahahahah!
I heard a story on the radio which mentioned that vinyl records are probably the most stable media on which to store sound recordings--they should be able to last centuries, with proper care and storage. Tapes stretch and de-magnetize; CDs laminates are inherently undependable, over the long term--especially because the laminated materials are different from each other, and will expand and shrink at different rates, even under the best conditions. (This basic physical fact about expansion and contraction is the reason my Dad builds canoes the old way, out of wood and canvas, but I'll leave that for another post.)
There. So I can keep all my LPs forever, right?
